Summer Reading Challenge
During summer, students can lose as much as 22% of what they learned in reading class by not putting it into practice.* That means 2 months of school down the drain! You can help prevent this summer reading loss simply by encouraging your child to read over the summer.
Our school is challenging each of our students to complete a reading passport this summer! Encourage your child to earn passport stamps by completing the challenge on each stamp. Feel free to complete some of the challenges together and even create your own reading challenges! To earn the stamp, your child should read for at least 15 minutes. Your student can earn passport stamps from independent reading, reading with you or a sibling, online reading or even listening to audiobooks. All reading counts! Check out the Gardner Road Library website. It has links to some great resources that Gardner Road subscribes to! Click on the kids using the computer to access the resources. Any student who returns their passport with at least 20 stamps by September 14th will be invited to a reading party with Mrs. Herforth! Our goal is for this activity to be flexible, fun and something that families can participate in together! Which is why we encourage you to visit the Gardner Road Facebook event - Summer Reading 2018 to post photos of your students reading this summer!
