Horseheads High School
The Arts
The Horseheads High School Art Department provides quality art instruction to all students.
This process recognizes not only the needs of the art producer seeking a life career, but also the needs of all individuals to be literate in the arts. We promote art production, art heritage, aesthetics, and criticism in all aspects of the curriculum.
This art-enriched environment gives all students a means through which they are able to express and evaluate the human condition. By studying and practicing the arts, students have the opportunity for a fuller life in a diverse society and multi-cultural world.
We are fortunate, and more importantly our students are fortunate, that the Horseheads School District believes in and supports the Fine Art program at Horseheads High School.
We are able to offer students a wide variety of courses, from sculpture to computer graphics, printmaking to photography, and foundation studio courses to Drawing and Painting III. There is something for everyone.
Although our success can't be measured on a state exam, it can be measured when comparing our student's work to that of other schools in the region, the state and the nation. Each year Horseheads High School does exceptionally well at the Scholastic Art Competition. Last year alone, nearly half of all the work accepted into the regional competition was from Horseheads High School (out of the 47 schools that participated in the competition.)
Further, our success is measured by looking at the number of students who pursue careers in the art world. Our students have become successful graphic designers, jewelers, illustrators, art teachers, museum curators, web page designers, product designers, architects, photographers, photo journalists, medical illustrators, and animators.
The Horseheads High School Art Department is devoted to, and successful at, fulfilling the artistic needs of the high school community.
