The District is required by New York State to implement Annual Professional Performance Reviews (APPR) of teachers and principals. Each teacher and principal subject to APPR this year will receive an overall rating measured by the HEDI scale (Highly Effective, Effective, Developing, or Ineffective). Ratings are based on two categories: Student Performance and Observation. A matrix is used to correlate the two category scores to determine the overall HEDI rating (for more information click here).
Due to recent changes in the 3rd – 8th Grade ELA and math curricula and assessments, many teachers and principals will not receive a score in the Student Performance category. As such, their overall HEDI rating will be based solely on the Observational category (click here for more information on the HEDI rating).
You may request the overall rating for your child's current teachers and/or principals by contacting the building principal of your child's school. If you wish for additional explanation of the ratings for teachers and principals, you may contact Anthony Gill, Director of Secondary Education, at (607) 739-5601, x4263, One Raider Lane, Horseheads, NY 14845. You may also e-mail the district at email@example.com.
