5th Grade Academics Overview

English Language Arts: Use of informational texts, reading literacy in all content areas, close and careful reading of complex texts, providing text-based answers to questions, writing that emphasizes using evidence to inform or make an argument, and academic vocabulary.
Mathematics: Numbers and Operations, Fractions, Decimals, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, Geometry.
Science: Hands on learning about collaboration, mixtures and solutions, levers and pulleys, and living environments through the FOSS Science Program.
Social Studies: Students will study the Western Hemisphere to understand the impact of migration, climate, culture and lands of Canada, the United States, Mexico and parts of South America. This will include the study of Native Americans, European explorers, and geography.
