Horseheads High School
Health

Health Education is a required academic discipline that covers Wellness, Nutrition, Mental Health, Tobacco, Alcohol, Other Drugs, Relationships, Sexuality, and Diseases.

Students learn how to create their own healthy lifestyles through the choices they make. This course demonstrates the life-long skills that will enhance individual's lives and how to make the choices that are most beneficial long-term.

Health Education reinforces how important the choices we make are. We practice how and why to make good decisions based on the correct and current information/data along with how and why to avoid the choices that can be personally detrimental.

As a department, we strive to teach and assist students in becoming naturally happy, informed, empathetic, caring, and responsible citizens by utilizing personal skills and information that will help them to do so.

We strive to teach correct and current information and encourage individually beneficial choices that can be used throughout life.

We hope Health class is a culmination of a life-long educational journey that every student embraces and utilizes to the best of their ability. Teaching invaluable lessons that are not found in text books bring to life the district's mission through an exemplary curriculum that appeals to every type of learner. We strive to create life-long learners through lessons that are immeasurable in life with information from many sources is critical in these changing and turbulent times.

WE believe that the best decisions individuals can make are the ones that are made with correct, current information and have beneficial outcomes.

The Health Department is committed to the district's mission and dedicated to implementing the following New York State learning standards in our ongoing efforts to maximize student success.

Standard 1: Personal Health and Fitness
Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health.

Standard 2: A Safe and Healthy Environment
Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Standard 3: Resource Management
Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources.
