Welcome to First Grade
First grade is based on a developmental approach to learning. We promote the physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth of each child, as well as self-esteem and self-confidence. We work to help our students grow and develop, in all areas of learning.
Our subject areas include:
| English Language Arts: | Reading, writing, and sight words. |
| Mathematics: | Recognizing numbers, counting in various ways (by fives to 50, by twos to 20, etc.), writing and reading numbers, place values (ones tens), comparing numbers, ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.), addition, subtraction, word problems, telling time, arithmetic patterns, money |
| Science: | Plants, life cycle of birds, animals, weather, seasons, earth (rocks, soil, water, air, resources), matter (solid, liquid, gases), forces, magnets, balance and motion, roller coaster, wall design, pebbles, sand, silt |
| Social Studies: | Holidays, my family and other families, community, citizenship, maps, land/resources, now and long ago |
