Horseheads Instrument Loan Program
The Horseheads Instrument Loan Program is a confidential way for students to borrow an instrument so they can make music with their peers. In order to qualify for a school-loaned instrument, the following criteria must be met:
- There must be a financial need, defined by free or reduced meal eligibility.
- Students must practice on a regular basis and commit to playing the instrument for the entire school year.
- Families and students are responsible for the care and return of the instrument at the end of the school year.
Instruments will be checked for repair issues throughout the year and when they are returned at the end of the school year. If more students apply for an instrument than there are available instruments, students will be chosen through a process approved by the district, including the extend of financial need, chronological order in which applications were submitted, beginner status, grade level. Students may also choose a different instrument.
The district has a limited supply of cellos, clarinets, flutes, mallets, saxophones, trombones, trumpets, violas and violins. See the videos below for demonstrations of these instruments.
